Pictured are several crawl space floor joists in a row with termite damage on a New Orleans house that I recently inspected. You can easily see the termite trails going around the sill and into the joists. The joists are crushing under the weight of the home. There is obviously a big hole in the siding and it’s letting in water. Termites love to have access to water so this is a great home for them. Termites need to be killed and the joists can be sistered to prevent further crushing. To learn more about these pests visit the LSU Ag Center website.
